Reduce Prescription Costs - Prescription Drug Samples

Anytime that you are starting a new prescription medication or changing to a lower costing medication, ask your doctor for samples of the new medication. This is to ensure that you don't spend a lot of money for a full prescrition bottle to find out later that the medication doesn't work correctly for you.

Manufacturers will often give samples to doctors to promote their brand. Doctors can give these samples to patients free of charge. Since there is no way of knowing how your body will react to each new drug, taking samples to make sure they work correctly is important.

If the doctor prescribes a generic brand or doesn't have samples of the particular brand that he has prescribed, ask to have two prescription made. One for the full prescription and another for a trial period (a time period just to determine if the drug is effective and your body can tolerate it).

If the after taking the new prescription medication during the trial period with no ill effects, you can go and purchase the full prescription. If there are issues with the new prescription medication, you have only purchased tablets for a few days and won't have wasted money on a full supply of a medication you can't take.
